If you know what you want to buy and from which provider, but are unable to buy from them face-to-face, then most companies will allow you to buy from a call centre. You can call them and be guided through the process at your own pace and the whole thing can usually be done there and then over the phone. It’s really as simple as that.

Plus, the key feature of a call centre is that you still get to speak to a human being. However they may only be trained to talk about their own products, and may not be able to give advice, so you must be confident about your decisions.

Pros

  • You may not have to fill in any forms as lots of companies let you do it all over the phone.
  • It’s quicker and easier than other buying options.
  • Many are open evening and weekends.

Cons

  • You need to be very confident that a product is right for you.
  • They may only be able to advise you on their own products.

It can be an attractive option, especially for people who know what they want and want it quickly, but aren’t convinced about buying online.

If you’re set on buying through a company you know and trust, and already have a relationship with, you may find this way of buying the most comfortable. But you need to be very confident that you know exactly what you’re buying and that it’s really right for you.

If you’ve already got advice and you just want to go ahead with a recommendation over the phone, it can be quick and easy. But don’t do it unless you’re sure.

Getting started is really just as easy as dialling a number (that you’ve seen in an advert, received in a mailing or found on a website), answering a few questions and agreeing to buy. The person on the other end will then be able to guide you through the rest of the process – any questions they need to ask, what documents you need to read, what paperwork you’ll need to sign and any evidence you need to provide. All paperwork will be sent to you in the post.

Do your homework – make sure you know what you’re buying before you proceed.

Keep a record – there are many people all waiting to take your call in call centre, so it is unlikely that your call will always be answered by the same person. Therefore, make sure you note down who you speak to, on what day and what time so you can always find who it is you have been dealing with.

Take your time – make sure you make the right decision for you. If you need to take time to think it over, then call back.
