How do I choose?

Read the literature

Before you sign up, you may be given a ‘key features’ document. It’s important to make sure that you read it carefully and understand it. It tells you:

  • What the plan is designed to do and what it does not do
  • What you have to do (for example, the premiums you have to pay)
  • What the costs and charges are
  • What risks are involved
  • What your rights are.

Once you have taken out a policy you will receive documents with all the details of your cover. It’s important to read these documents to double check that you have the cover you want, that all the details are correct and that you are happy with the terms of the policy. Make sure you keep all of these documents, including the key features, in a safe place.

If you have any queries or changes to make, get in touch with your provider. Remember, anything that’s not correct might affect whether or not a payment is made when you make a claim. Alternatively, if you have changed your mind and wish to cancel your cover, it is possible to do this, usually within 30 days of setting up the plan, and get a refund on any payments that have already been made.
