Getting started

Final salary pension schemes

These pension schemes are often called ‘final salary’ or ‘defined benefit’ schemes, because the pension you get is worked out according to how many years you have worked for the employer and the average salary you received in the last few years before retiring.

If you’re only in this type of scheme then you don’t need to do anything apart from making sure the scheme knows your up-to-date details, to arrange an income from the pension scheme, as the money from this type of pension will be paid directly to you once you retire.
